Volvo XC90 2016 to Hit the Shores of Thailand on March 9
BANGKOK: After unveiling the all-new Volvo XC90 almost an year ago, Volvo is all set to launch the all-new replacement for the eleven-year old XC90 on March 9 in Thailand. This second-generation flagship SUV was first revealed at the Paris Motor Show in August 2015 followed by the Thailand Motor Expo 2015 retaining all the features Volvo has been indicating at for a very long time. The arrival of the 2016 Volvo XC90 is surely going to be the new chapter in the Volvo's Transformation Plan that started years ago in the country.
The most luxurious seven-seater SUV is packed with all the latest class-leading safety technologies and all the advanced features continuing the legacy of the Volvo Cars in terms of luxury. Dr. Peter Mertens, Senior VP of Volvo R & D commented that almost 90% of the components in the 2016 XC90 are unique and it is built on the SPA (Scalable product Architecture) modular chassis system developed in-house. Over the past few years, The Volkswagen Group was in the limelight with its MQB platform architecture designed for transverse-engine FWD use. Now Volvo has developed the similar undertaking, the SPA which is used in the all-new Volvo XC90 for the very first time in the Volvo Cars' history.
With the flexibility provided by the Volvo SPA, 2016 XC90 boasts alluring design features, world-first safety features, latest connected car technologies and the most importantly outstanding interior space.
The first-ever SUV to be built on the SPA, XC90 is powered by the plug-in hybrid powertrain comprising petrol-powered T8 along with a turbo, supercharger and a plug-in electric ability. This hybrid powertrain is capable of offering an unrivalled output of up to 400 hp with the best combination of fuel efficiency and less CO2 emissions of just 60g/km. Volvo claims that the T8 powertrain can sprint from 0-100 kmph in 6.4 secs which is only half a second lower than the Porsche's facelifted Cayenne S E-hybrid.
While the Thailand is eagerly waiting for the Volvo XC90 2016 to hit the shores of the country, the brand has unveiled the most supremely luxurious SUV ever built by the Volvo Cars-the Volvo XC90 Excellence at the ongoing Geneva Motor Show 2016. The XC90 was unveiled at the show along with the yet another luxurious Volvo S90 which was officially unveiled last year in the country. The Volvo XC90 Excellence is based on the SUV segment only but it ditches the last row of the SUV making it the most luxurious 4-seater in its segment. The Excellence trim is also powered by the same T8 twin Engine plug-in hybrid powertrain utilizing Volvo's own SPA technology.
Owing to the Volvo-by-Volvo strategy, all-new 2016 XC90 is the combination of efficiency, versatility, space, supreme luxury and safety which bring the SUV segment altogether into a complete new direction.
