Toyota’s latest addition in the Crossover and Pickup segment
BANGKOK: With the official opening of the 37th Bangkok International Motor Show, Toyota Motors brought in a treat for the world with its two high-performance vehicles namely Toyota C-HR in its concept form and the 2016 Toyota Hilux Revo TRD Sportivo.
After being spied in Turkey flaunting its groovy styling, the latest cross from the Toyota’s lineup, C-HR is showcased at the show to challenge the dominance of other crossovers in the market like Honda HR-V and Nissan Juke. With the heavily chiseled surfaces, highlighted wheel arches and a roof mounted spoiler, the Japanese automaker has attempted to merge a coupe profile with the functionality of SUV into this new crossover.
Built on the new Toyota New Global Architecture, this new Toyota Crossover is showcased in three engine variants: an entry-level 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol unit, 1.8-litre hybrid and the range-topping 2.0-litre petrol mill. While the hybrid powertrain with the 1.8-litre Atkinson engine and an electric motor is capable of producing a combined power output of 122 hp, its 1.2-litre turbo petrol and 2.0-litre petrol produces total output of 116 hp and 153 hp respectively.
While the Toyota C-HR has managed to entice the young crowds of the country, the brand has also come up with the sportier pickup Toyota Hilux TRD Sportivo post its world premiere to catch an eye of off-roaders and haulers. Based on the Toyota Racing Development, this sportier pick has got a new black-matte finish grille and a more aggressive bumper integrating round fog lamps and TRD sportivo branding throughout the car. With a stubby rear spoiler with integrated stop light, Revo TRD Sportivo rides on 18-inch black alloy wheels in the protruding wheel arches making it perfect for hauling and off-roading.
Built upon a new frame infused with new FIRM (Frame with Integrated Rigidity Mechanism) technology, the new Sporty Hilux can absorb the frontal and side collision in much better ways.
Toyota Pickup is showcased at the BIMS 2016 with a 2.4-litre 2GD-FTV power unit transferring the total power of 150 hp to the wheels via six-speed automatic transmission.
Toyota Motors haven't confirmed the launch date of Toyota C-HR and Hilux Revo TRD Sportivo in Thailand auto market, but they will eventually arrive in the market by next year boosting the sales opportunities for the brand.
