Porsche 718 Boxster and Boxster S To be Powered By Turbocharged Four-Cylinder
BANGKOK: Entry level models Boxster and Cayman of Porsche will get a numeric nomenclature of 718 alongwith their mid-life makeover and is set to launch for the first time on public platform at the Geneva Motor Show this March. The roadster is going to bear a 718 Boxster nomenclature owing to the mid-engined sports cars of 1950s and 1960s winning numerous races. The teaser of 718 Porsche Boxster and 718 Cayman was released in December last year showing the connection of the old and original 718 Porsche.
The base model Boxster and the facelifted Boxster S will be packed with the turbocharged flat-four power units available in 2.0-litre and 2.5-litre displacements respectively. The regular 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder unit will produce the maximum power of 300 hp along with the peak torque of 380 Nm, from 1,950 rpm to 4,500 rpm. The higher-displacement unit of 2.5-litre will deliver additional 35 hp of 3.4-ltre old engine making the maximum power of around 335 hp along with the peak torque of 420 Nm. Porsche's PDK automatic transmission will clock 100 kmph in just 4.2 seconds reaching the top speed of 285 kmph and claims the fuel economy to improve by 13 % giving the mileage of 14.45 kmpl and 13.6 kmpl respectively.
Porsche Boxster looks sharper with new head lamp fixtures with integrated DRLs LED, 19-inch wheels along with the redesigned tail-lights. Porsche 718 Boxster price will list from $56,000 for the base model and $68,400 for the Boxster S with the sales to start in June in United States. The power units of 718 models is likely to use in the Macan SUV. The German brand is doing a hard-work to fastens the pace of sales-growth by approving a $1.09 billion to manufacture battery-powered sports cars based on its Mission E concept.
