Audi Electric SUV To Make its Way To Production in Brussels Plant
BANGKOK: Audi has officially announced the production of its first ever electric vehicle in the lineup of it Sports Utility Vehicle, SUV. The production will take place in the Brussels plant, Belgium alongwith the EV's battery composed of lithium-ion cells provided by Samsung SDI and LG Chem providing supply to other Volkswagen cars too. Audi electric SUV is based on the Audi e-tron quattro concept which was first unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show to rival against Tesla Model X which surfaced the U.S market last year . Revealed in pretty-in-blue design, the new electric-luxury-class SUV is now all set to make its way to the production in early 2018.
The Belgian Plant will accommodate the production of the Audi Electric SUV and its battery, moving its A1 subcompact hatchback to the Martorell plant, Spain, consequently shifting the production of Q2 SUV from Spain to Gyor, Hungary.
Speculated to fit in between the Q7 and Q5, Audi electric SUV will be packed with three electric motors: one in front and two at the rear just like Audi tron concept that was revealed last year. These electric motors will produce a total output of 496hp alongwith 800nm torque and can offer a range of 500 km with the 95 kWh lithium-ion battery. All that output is more than enough to make the new Audi Electric Car to sprint upto 0-100 kmph in 4.6 seconds reaching the top speed to 210 kmph which will be electronically limited. There will be SAE Combo Charging System (CCS) outlet alongwith wireless induction charging.
Volkswagen Group which owned the German brand, has unveiled an all-electric microbus or a minivan at the Consumer Electronic Show 2016 at Las Vegas earlier this month. We can also see an Electric Phaeton in the production line next decade. Volkswagen Group is getting more serious for its green vehicles and that can also be seen in its new Audi h-tron concept unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show 2016. H-tron is a hydrogen-fueled concept of the e-tron Quattro concept and benefits from both the hydrogen fuel cell and lithium-ion battery.
Expected to be launched as Q6, an electric SUV will be the most expensive vehicle in its segment and will go in production in early 2018.
