What Detroit Auto Show Has To Offer To Thailand?
BANGKOK: Detroit has kicked off the North American International Auto Show 2016 from January 11 setting the bar for the automotive industry, launching numerous models from different brands around the world. Detroit Auto Show has proven itself to be a red carpet for the automotive industry's latest innovations, concepts, technologies, supercars, luxury vehicles, sports cars and pickup trucks from the key players of the ever growing global automobile industry. Many countries look forward to this big show in interest for their own country's auto market. Thailand, being the largest automotive producer among ASEAN countries, thus popularly known as “Detroit of Asia”, not surprisingly is looking forward as to what this year Auto Show has to offer.

Volvo S90: Revealed last year in Sweden, Volvo S90 made a grand debut at the Detroit Auto Show 2016. After winning the top honors for its premium SUV-XC90, Volvo is hoping the same with its S90 which follows the steps of its predecessor. XC90 was recognized with the Truck/utility of the year at the auto show. This flagship sedan is built on the same platform-Scalable Product Architecture(SPA) as XC90. The luxury sedan will feature semi-autonomous driving technology along with plug-in hybrid option of T8 twin Engine offering the power upto 410 hp . S90 will also be available in three options of engines: the same 4-cylinder engine which was in XC90, a turbocharged T5, 2.0-litre turbocharged T6. The premium sedan is expected to surface the market in this summer with the base price of 40,000. Thailand has yet to see when it will have the taste of this luxury sedan.
Mercedes-Benz SLC Roadster: Under the theme ”The year of Dream Cars”, Mercedes-Benz rolled out several new models at the world's biggest auto show in Detroit this week. Among those was the German luxury brand's SLC which is a performance car and a roadster. Formerly known as SLK which was launched 20 years ago, the new SLC sports the refreshed design with the brand's standard diamond grille and arrow-shaped hood. The SLC has borrowed the latest technology from the C-Class range from where it has possibly taken its name. The successor of SLK will be available in two variants: SLC300 and Mercedes AMG SLC43 achieving the power of 241 hp and 362 hp. Both will share a 9-TRONIC automatic transmission and going to launch in the market in spring.
Mercedes-Benz E-Class: Mercedes-Benz E-Class arrived at the North American International Auto Show with a bang along with its other two models: SLC and AMC S-65 Cabriolet. The 10th generation showcased in the show packed with the latest technology including autonomous driving technologies pushing the boundaries of the German luxury brand. The mid-sized luxury sedan and the second-best selling car follows the C-Class lineup regarding the design. It comes with a steering wheel integrated with touch-sensitive controls and also packed with 64 different LED accents to illuminate the cabin. Globally, the new premium sedan will come with a 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine delivering the power of 184 hp. It will be also available in all-new 4-cylinder diesel engine offering 195 hp power and both will share an all new 9-speed automatic transmission..
BMW M2 Coupe: Launched as the successor to the M lineup of BMW brand, BMW M2 Coupe will surface the market at the base price of 51,700. It was one of the most anticipated cars among the fans since its teaser were doing rounds across the globe. BMW coupe made its debut along with the brand's X4 M40i SUV at the Detroit Auto Show 2016. The customers will get the 2 series coupe packed with a 3.0 litre twin scroll turbocharged straight 6-cylinder offering the power of 355 hp and can sprint up to 0-100 kmph in just 4 seconds.
With the grand debuts of the above premium vehicles at the Detroit Auto Show 2016, it is yet to see when the models of key players will launch in the Thai auto market giving relief to the auto fans who are waiting for the new arrivals in their country with a bated breath.
